What is proof-reading?

All translations that are to be typeset for online or print publication require a final check before the final go-ahead: this check is called proof-reading. When a graphic or web designer works on a text, typing errors or other page layout problems may unintentionally arise. Or perhaps, once the text is matched with images, we may realise that the translation does not work so well and that it needs some adjustment. When translations in several languages are arranged side by side, we may notice some inconsistencies between the texts. When inserting captions, it may be that text and images do not match up correctly.

This stage is often overlooked, but is extremely important. Discrepancies and small flaws can easily arise but just as easily be resolved to ensure that what goes to print or online is free of errors and achieves the desired results.
