Corporate website translation: Maddalena S.p.A.

Change in look and new content for the multilingual website of a company with a strong international reach.

What is it about?

Maddalena S.p.A. has completely redesigned its website, developed by Interlaced srl, to present itself to the world in a richer, more dynamic way. The site is produced in 5 languages to communicate to as vast an audience as possible. The portal comprises, in addition to the corporate pages, an extensive section devoted to products and specific pages centered on production quality and sustainability, which are key drivers for the company.

What does the project look like?

We worked alongside Maddalena S.p.A. in the creation of the new corporate website translating the texts of pages, technical descriptions of products, legal notes, contact forms, micro-texts and texts linked to images, without forgetting the parts intended for search engine optimization. Separately, we also translated the brochures downloadable from the website.

The translation of a website is stratified into several levels and never includes just what the public sees at first glance when consulting the pages.

Maddalena S.p.A. also chose to dedicate a special section in German only to its subsidiary in Germany, Maddalena GmbH. This strategic choice helps to better understand the concept of localization and the adaptation of content to individual regional and national markets. Translating a website does not mean necessarily having the same version in different languages, but quite the opposite.

How was the translation work organized?

The work was organized in collaboration with the Company’s marketing and web developers directly on the WordPress platform using dedicated tools for multilingual content translation. The actual translation, done by technical and legal translators, was preceded and followed by substantial text management work of the different languages, updates and adjustments, which are inevitable in such a large project. The final check of the texts, images and links was also an important operation carried out on several fronts in conjunction with the company.

What were the challenges and strategies adopted?

The multilingual translation of a corporate website involves many players and requires considerable attention from an organizational, before than a linguistic, point of view. In addition to co-ordination before and after the translation, it is also essential for the translator to be familiar with the products and the reality of the company sector so that technical and terminological considerations pose as few problems as possible. Continuity is important: despite the fact that this is a large project lasting several months, the dedicated translators, who have followed the company for years, have remained the same and were able to provide it with a consistent voice and wording.

To sum up:

The new Maddalena S.p.A. website is a powerful tool, though not the only one, with which the Company presents itself to customers and stakeholders in Italy and abroad. A constantly evolving channel capable of making a difference to the company’s positioning and personality, as well as to the browsing experience and information it offers customers and interested users.
